Observing Dussehra at @company.name

Dussehra is a Hindu holiday that celebrates the victory of good over evil—and, more specifically, the victory outlined in the epic Ramayana, where the hero Rama (who is actually a form of the Hindu God Vishnu) defeats Ravana, a 10-headed demon that abducted Rama’s wife, Sita. In fact, the name Dussehra is formed from two Sanskrit words that describe the epic victory—dasha (which translates to “ten”) and hara (which means “defeat”).

While Dussehra is celebrated across India, the way it’s celebrated varies by region. For example, in Northern India, Ram Leela, an adaptation of the Ramayana that includes both music and spoken dialogue, is performed across hundreds of stages—white Kullu Dussehra, a festival celebrating Dussehra throughout the month of October, draws more than half a million people to the northern state of Himachal Pradesh each year. Meanwhile, celebrants in other parts of India have different traditions to mark Dussehra (which, depending on the area, may include immersing idols in water, hosting folk dances, hosting large festivals and celebrations, or exchanging sweets).

How to prepare
