How to celebrate Canada Day at work

It’s Canada Day! Here’s how we’re celebrating—and how you can get involved:

What you need to know about Canada Day

Canada Day is a national holiday and the anniversary of the Canadian Confederation (sometimes called Canada’s Birthday). Prior to 1867, what is currently known as Canada was divided into multiple provinces. But on July 1, 1867, the passing of the British North America Act, 1987, three of those provinces—the United Canadas, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick—were united, officially confederating Canada.

Today, Canadians across the country celebrate “Canada’s Birthday” with community-sponsored events like barbecues, parades, and festivals—often complete with fireworks.

How to prepare

We’ll be closed on Canada Day, so make sure to turn on your out-of-office message before the holiday.

How to take action

Canada Day is about celebrating Canada. But it’s also an opportunity to shine a light on the systemic injustices, prejudice, and persecution Indigenous people have experienced throughout our country’s history.

Here’s how to take action on Canada Day to support Indigenous communities:
