Whether you’re celebrating Bodhi Day, Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa or another day that is special to you, we wish you a Happy Holidays filled with your loved ones.

Season’s cheer

This is a time filled with important festivities for many of us throughout the world and offers us an amazing opportunity to learn more about the traditions of others! Here are some of the celebrations happening over the next month:

Bodhi Day/Buddha’s Enlightenment Day

December 8th is a Buddhist holiday celebrating when Siddhartha Gautama experienced enlightenment and became the Buddha. People celebrate by meditating, performing kind acts for others, reading Buddhist texts, or having a traditional meal.

Hanukkah

Starting the evening of December 7th through the 15th, Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, is an eight-day Jewish celebration that includes the lighting of the menorah, traditional foods, games and gifts. It commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt.

Christmas

Christmas, celebrated on December 25th, is both a Christian religious holiday and a non-religious family holiday. Decorating Christmas trees, exchanging gifts, attending church, and gathering with friends and family for meals are all traditions of Christmas.

Kwanzaa

Dr. Maulana Karenga created Kwanzaa in 1966 as a way for African Americans to celebrate and connect to their heritage, family and culture. The festival is observed from December 26th through January 1st and celebrations often include songs, dances, candle-lighting and a traditional meal.
