How to prepare for your upcoming parental leave

Congratulations! Here's what you can do to create a smooth transition into parental leave.

Take these actions this week

  • Attend a meeting with your manager and HR rep to learn about our parental leave policies (they will schedule).

What to expect before leave begins

You and your manager will have three meetings leading up to the start of your parental leave:

  • Meeting 1 (this week) - Discuss leave policies and your leave  (~4-5 months before leave)
  • Meeting 2 - Develop the transition plan for coverage of your work during your leave (~3 months before leave)
  • Meeting 3 - Finalize your transition plan, communication plan, and tentative discussions on your return to work plans (~1 month before leave starts)

What you’ll discuss in Meeting 1

Your manager or an HR team member will schedule the first meeting to discuss leave policies and your parental leave.

Come to this meeting prepared to:

  • Ask any questions you have about our parental leave program.
  • Inform your manager and HR representative about when you intend to take leave and how much leave you anticipate taking.
  • Tell your manager and HR representative if you have or expect any work restrictions due to pregnancy.
  • Schedule the next meeting to develop a transition plan 2-3 months prior to when you intend to take leave.
